Overview

  • Best Known For: Vast landscapes, red elephants, and diverse wildlife.

  • Description: Tsavo is Kenya’s largest national park, covering over 22,000 square kilometers. It is divided into two sections: Tsavo East and Tsavo West.

Tsavo East is known for its open plains, the Yatta Plateau (one of the world’s longest lava flows), and its famous red elephants, which get their distinctive color from the red volcanic soil. This park is ideal for spotting large elephant herds, lions, leopards, cheetahs, and unique bird species.

Tsavo West is more rugged and scenic, featuring volcanic landscapes, rocky hills, and dense vegetation. It is home to Mzima Springs, a beautiful oasis where crystal-clear waters attract hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species. The park also has the Shetani Lava Flows, a fascinating geological feature formed by volcanic activity.
